All I want for Xmas

Those Apple people..they're so darned sneaky and clever! Here's more reason for them to make more dosh...and for us to fork out more money! Sigh...

Features of the new iPod Nano:
* in-built accelerator i.e. the image on the screen flips to fit whichever way the device is being held
* shake-to-shuffle mode. No, it's not some new dance move..what it means is that users can shake the device and play a random tune from its downloaded library of music.
* more colours, 9 altogether.
* bigger capacities: 8GB and 16GB
* stop-watch and video-recorder functions
* longer and thinner than its original predecessor, with a curved aluminium design
* 'Genius' function. Basically what it does is it will scan a user's iTunes library, and suggest other songs and artists they might like based on their musical tastes.

50 and still going strong

She's about to embark on her World Tour, cheekily called Sticky and Sweet (that's Madonna for you). She's courted controversy, from ruffling religious feathers to dabbling in sexual fantasies (Sex anyone?) to divorce rumours, and still is. Forget about Kylie or Katie Holmes or Posh Spice, she is the mother of reinvention (virginal vamp, Marilynesque bombshell, Material Girl, ambisexual dominatrix, spiritual diva, lady of the manor, disco diva). She's shrewd, tough, disciplined and has a smart command of what's "in"..and let's not forget, she's bloody rich too! Probably will be even more richer when her Live Nation deal kicks in. Love her or hate her, she's one smart, tough chica and from the looks of it, she isn't showing signs of slowing down, let alone letting the big 5-0 affect her.

All hail the Queen (no pun intended to the actual Queen) and Happy Birthday!

I still love this...such a happy song :D

Nostalgia

Whilst browsing through the CDs mozart compiled for me, I came across this...

Accordingly this CD came out 20 years ago...and if you're wondering what the "new kids" are up to, then look no further..

Following the backheels of Take That, Boyzone et al, New Kids On The Block or as they're more affectionately called NKOTB are back..never mind that they're probably rusty on the dance moves but seeing Joey, Jordan, Jonathan, Donnie and Danny still puts a smile on my face *sigh*

Although, I'm not sure if referring them as New Kids is befitting at this day and age seeing how they aren't exactly "kids" anymore.. Jonathan alone is 40!

What is it about.....

.....Celine Dion that always triggers all sorts of criticisms/jokes? When Titanic ruled the box office and ultimately the Oscars, people couldn't get enough of THAT infamous song, yours truly included such that I'd break into a couple of sniffles each time I watch that other infamous "I won't let go, I won't let go" scene. Come on, admit it, the last hour of the movie was pretty heartbreaking wasn't it?

So when Celine recently topped some silly slash useless poll (which no one probably gives a d**n anyway) about her cover of an AC/DC song as being the worst cover ever, I thought that if someone like Amy Winehouse or RIhanna covered the song, everyone would be singing their praises. I can think of other worst cover songs...Fall Out Boy's rendition of "Beat It" (been there so many times, done that so many times too)...Jessica Simpson's "These Boots Are Made For Walking" (oh how I cringe each time I see her cavorting senseless in that bikini). Besides I doubt Celine will lose much sleep over this. Nor will this stop people from checking out her concert shows. I know. I've seen her perform live and she definitely ranks amongst the likes of Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Bette Midler et al.

Viva Celine Dion!

Age is simply a number

Whilst many women out there would love to have a killer body like Madge, yours truly included, I'm not sure I like the idea of a 50-year old mother/wife prancing around in her knickers..

A Little Bit of Feel Good comes a long way

All this while, I'd thought Jamie Lidell was a black dude...but these days, colour/race knows no boundaries and this song is so funky that I've been listening to it non-stop for the past one month!

Gaining momentum...

I don't know how others do it i.e. maintaining their blogs/sites on a daily basis but Medulla, you are right! When the drive is on a down-low, or worst case scenario no longer there, even the very thought of blogging can be a huge drag. Luckily, my motivation is slowly gaining momentum so what better way to start with my weekly American Idol review..

Still a wee bit miffed about last week's out-of-blue elimination of my boy Michael Johns and KLC's continuing luck, this week Mariah Carey is the guest mentor for the remaining seven (Ramiele must be wishing Mariah had come when she was still in the contest..too bad love, you would've still messed it up regardless of who the guest mentor was). As with the other great divas such as Celine and Whitney, it was a sure bet comparisons would be made between the original diva herself and the wannabes who think that just becos they've got a big voice, they'd be on par with Mariah (Syesha anyone?).

It's no secret that this year, the fellas are better than the gurls despite the ratio tilting more towards the gurls..and tonight proved just that. From David A. to the other David, and yes my Jason too, all 3 of them proved worthy of being in the final next month. With the exception of Carly, Brooke struggled to stay in tune..Syesha in her wannabe-diva mode proved to be a wannabe..and don't get me started on KLC!! I think it was Paula who commented something about KLC being 'smart' and I couldn't agree with her more. Spot on Paula. KLC knows her weaknesses yet somehow she knows how to work round that - by playing safe. Therefore unless the voters out there know what's good for them, my money's on Syesha or Brooke to get the cut tomorrow whereas KLC will probably heave another sigh of relief...

...let's hope not.

Game on (sort of)

Seems like the flu bug is really going on the offensive. Not only has the bug been causing havoc back here, it's even managed to strike some of the 12 female Idol wannabes and judging from their performances tonight, the little bugger might just prove the death of a couple of early favourites..

Having said that, following last night's "slightly above average" show, I was hoping the gurls would somehow liven things up (as they usually do) only to find myself saying out loud "Was that it??" And that's on top of actually sleeping midway through the show - a rare occasion where American Idol is concerned but that is saying A LOT about tonight.

Actually tonight's performances made it somewhat easier for me to predict as to who won't proceed to next week...now if I can just recall their names..my money's on Amy Whitaker, Joanne the plus-size model and/or Kady Malloy (I admit I cheated by checking out their names as I'm blogging so to speak). I am however impressed with that 17-year old...hang on let me check her name..oh yes Alaina Whitaker and that girl whose surname I can only remember, Lushington (cos it rhymes with Washington..corny I know). Am reserving my judgments on Syesha (presently annoying me high up on the Richter scale with her enthusiasm but must admit the girl has got one heck of a voice!), tatto girl (a classic case of "Don't judge a book by its cover"), Ramiele (another Jasmine Trias in the making? let's hope not....) and Amanda the rocker nurse (she's just plain cool).

And what is up with Ryan's second consecutive dissing of Simon towards the end of the show??

Game on

It's crunch time. Or as Randy said "The competition is on, ON!"

Over the coming weeks and as with the previous season, I'm hoping to share my thoughts on this season's American Idol, billed by Ryan as "the most talented 24 ever" (yeah, that's what they keep telling us year in year out)..so feel free to add or share your thoughts/comments (simply click 'Comments' below each entry that we make and follow through the instructions - it's as easy as ABC) with me.

So...

..maybe my expectations were slightly high but I was disappointed. Save for one or two contestants, everyone else seemed boring. Not even my favourite teens, David Archuleta and Danny Noriega (who kinda reminds me of Justin from Ugly Betty) lifted my spirits up..they were simply average And that Colton Berry (the so-called Ellen DeGeneres-lookalike) was just darned boring that I'm wishing Mr Future President had been chosen instead of him *sniff sniff* But, but but the surprise of the day for me came courtesy of Jason 'Mr Dreadlocks' Castro with his rendition of "What A Day For A Daydream". Ok so maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit here 'cos I was mostly distracted by how da*n goodlooking he was, even with those dreadlocks on (can you imagine how extra yummy he'd look without those things on??) Having said that, his performance was different and I was sorry we had to wait til the last fifteen minutes to see him.

AND finally there's Aussie boy himself aka Michael Johns, whom I'm guessing is currently ranked high on everyone's list..yours truly included. His "Light My Fire" rendition didn't exactly, pardon my pun, light my fire as "Bohemian Raphsody" did but man, can the guy sing!?! My only peeve (so far) - he's already married??????

All in all peeps, a wee bit above average and forgettable such that I can't even decide who'll get the cut this Friday.

Another British invasion?

Are the Yanks falling behind? With Amy Winehouse leading the pack, alongside Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Amy MacDonald and (not sure if she belongs here but I like her anyway) Natasha Bedingfield, it seems that the female Brits are slowly if not surely gaining territory in the always-fickle world of the music industry where Britney, Christina, Fergie, Rihanna, Beyonce, Mariah etc have always been dominant...and I for one am terribly excited with the further arrival of Adele and now, Duffy aka Aimee Anne of Nefyn, North Wales.

This song ("Mercy") is an acquired taste..although..like it or hate it, you gotta admit, at least it's not as annoying as "..ella..ella..e..e..e..e..under my umbrella..ella..ella...." uuugghhhh if I ever have to hear that song again I'm gonna have to burn all my Rihanna CDs!!

Beauty in motion

Currently loving this song to bits!

Rejoicing

I hate to gloat but I TOLD YOU SO. I knew it was gonna happen, I saw it coming and it finally happened. The so-called Spice Girls reunion concerts are coming to an end.

"
In a statement, the group blamed "personal and family commitments" for the reason behind their decision to cut their 'world tour' short."

Personal and family commitments my f**t! On top of the rumoured fall-out between the girls, I reckon once these has-beens have collected their 10 million quid, there's no point in continuing any further. I'd do the same.

Let's hope the Spice Girls are finally put to rest once and for all..except, of course, for Posh. You think this woman would lay low for even 5 seconds...even when pigs start to fly, you can bet this attention-seeker would go to the ends of the earth to make sure her antics come out trumps!

The start of something 'new'..

It was one of those rare Sundays where we made the extra effort to get up early. Our first effort in holding a garage sale. Though we still need to work on our PR skills, nevertheless our debut effort had a reasonable turnout with everyone ranging from Medulla (with her endless boxes of kiddies' stuff) to Cupcake (who'd spent 7 solid hours the day before making her infamous brownies (yumm), carrot cake (yumm yumm) and mini cupcakes (triple yumm esp those vanilla cupcakes which is now my second official favourite Cupcake creation after her brownies) with her newly-minted oven) to Greenie (another compulsive shopaholic who simply cannot resist buying for her mini-me daughter!) to mozart (who could forget that rare Jason Donavan CD she had lying in her room??) making some pretty good dosh..so much so that we're itching to do this whole garage-sale business another go.

Kudos to everyone involved, particularly to mozart for lending us the space.

What was she thinking?? (part three)

Her fashion sense has always been questionable so when a friend of mine forwarded me an e-mail about Siti Nurhaliza (or whatever title she now carries) I just couldn't help posting this to the blog..and subsequently confirming my belief that money cannot buy rich people everthing including style. Well ok, maybe not necessarily, in Siti's case and perhaps a few others too..Paris Hilton comes to mind..

Whoever decided that she looked good in this ought to start looking for another job 'cos this is just too painful to look at *OUCH!*

"All things local" snob?

Ignorant.

Lazy.

Snob.

These are just some of the many words one can describe yours truly (miaow!) when it comes down to all, if not, most things local. Ask me who the favourite local DJs are or favourite hotspots are, you'd most likely end up with a confused look on my face. I blame it on RTB for churning out those horrible singing programs/shows along with those hideous stuck-in-the-70s-era costumes...can you blame me for having nightmares about 'em??

Ask me the number of Grammy nominations Amy Winehouse received or best bakery shops in NYC, you'll receive a long list of recommendations!

Until I came across Projectunes...

..and what a pleasant surprise.

Could this along with IMTS be the wind of change in my long-established preconception of all things local?

p/s: Ok so maybe I have heard of DJs Jenny, Dafi and Hani..oops, my bad!

A very Posh alien from outer space

To think I'd get through December in one piece *sigh*

When it was reported that Her Royal Poutiness had engaged Roberto Cavalli to design the outfits for their reunion tour, somehow a not-so-little part of me had this inkling feeling that she'd outshine the others in the costume department, perhaps making up for her lack in the singing department.

Any more tighter, those silicones would probably pop out and do their own mini-Posh performance!?! And what is up with the mushroom outfit??? Anyone recall that mushroom character from Super Mario..

Thorn among the roses?

Notice how Posh sticks (no pun intended) out like a kayu lidi amongst the other 'more-healthier-looking' Spices? Oh Posh, why can't you see that you're looking deathly by the minute which isn't the least bit sexy (and hopefully get Becks to realise his idiot-of-a-wife needs to go into rehab or maybe some mental institution for the fame-obssessed delusionals)???
