Shaken but definitely not stirred

After watching trailers for the latest Bond movie, naturally I was on a high. After all, James Bond is like an international institution - charming, sexy, smart yet dangerous. Not forgetting those wonderful gadgets and cars that have been featured.And let's not forget all those girls who has succumbed to his charms *sigh* heck, with the gorgeous Daniel Craig on tow, I definitely wouldn't mind!

Unfortunately, that high didn't last long. Without going into too much details, let's just say I was left feeling stumped and disappointed when the movie ended. [spoiler alert!] Where was Q? Where were the gadgets? How did Bond not end up getting the girl? Who tried to **** M? Whatever happened to the first baddie after he disappeared? Unless I was sleeping halfway throughout the movie, everything seemed to going at top speed without any breathe/stop/pause button for us moviegoers to digest.

In the meantime, here's something for all you Daniel Craig fans out there to digest on.

All I want for Xmas

Those Apple people..they're so darned sneaky and clever! Here's more reason for them to make more dosh...and for us to fork out more money! Sigh...

Features of the new iPod Nano:
* in-built accelerator i.e. the image on the screen flips to fit whichever way the device is being held
* shake-to-shuffle mode. No, it's not some new dance move..what it means is that users can shake the device and play a random tune from its downloaded library of music.
* more colours, 9 altogether.
* bigger capacities: 8GB and 16GB
* stop-watch and video-recorder functions
* longer and thinner than its original predecessor, with a curved aluminium design
* 'Genius' function. Basically what it does is it will scan a user's iTunes library, and suggest other songs and artists they might like based on their musical tastes.

Safe and sound

It's official. My life revolves heavily around the internet. After spending almost five days at the hospital, my poor but still-ever-so-trustworthy laptop is back in operation. Despite the loss of my entire iTunes library (ouch!) and a couple of things which will never ever see the light of day, I'm just glad my baby is alive and kicking!

So much has happened over the past two weeks or so that I can't believe my leave will be ending soon..and I haven't even fully recovered from the recent events. How I envy the two amigos aka Mr White and Mr SAF also known to some of you as my younger brothers whose two-and-a-half week stay back here has sadly ended and are now settling back in London as we speak...

On a more happier note, the little one has now reached the 7th month. Over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that he's not fond of people sitting down when carrying him..I blame it on his grandpa who spoils him rotten by catering to his every whim/tantrum. But then how could one not resist spoiling such an adorable l'il fella particularly with those gi-normous eyes *hehehe*

Ever had one of those days where everything seems to be out of place? Aside from my hard drive officially gone all haywired as of late last night, thus screwing me up BIG time this morning when I was told that the drive was nowhere near salvagable (ouch!), seems that my car has decided to gang up against me...which could only mean one thing: a huge drain in my purse!! So a lesson learned from all this, especially when your life is practically reliant on this thing we call a computer/laptop, ALWAYS BACK UP.

As for the car, I suppose it comes with the territory that costs would be incurred when owning a high-end car, particularly one that is almost a decade old and where parts become harder to find, not forgetting bloody expensive too!

The end?

I gave up after a couple of tries mainly 'cos my losing streak was longer than winning. Friends I know were, and probably still are, addicted to it such that some even texted me telling (me) that it was my turn to play. But Scrabulous might no longer be around should the makers of Scrabble (that's Hasbro and Mattel) have their way for they have alleged Scrabulous has infringed their copyright.

So make the most of it whilst it's still around...alternatively, you can always head up to Hua Ho or any bookstore and get yourself the actual Scrabble game *LOL*

A new era?

First there was the iPod which totally revolutionized the way we listen to music over the past few years. And now we're getting the literary version, aptly called the Kindle, which offers access to about 90,000 books and 11 leading newspapers.

Now, the important question is - is the Kindle the new iPod? Peter Kafka seems to think otherwise.

Birthday suits galore

I must admit that when mozart suggested watching Boewulf last night, I wasn't exactly doing cartwheels nor doing one of my crazy dances. Nor was I curious about Angelina Jolie's so-called naked scene (more on that later)..quite shocking for this not-so-closeted fan of La Jolie!

Adapted for the screen by Neil Gaiman (he of the Sandman comics) and Roger Avary, this rather ancient tale concerns the title warrior, who arrives in Denmark to do battle with a scarily-deformed monster, Grendel, who has been terrifying the Danish court. Here's the twist: Grendel happens to be the son of the Danish king who apparently did the deed with G's mommy, none other than Angelina Jolie mostly 'wearing' nothing but her birthday suit! Oh but wait! there's another twist to the earlier twist..but let's not get into that for the benefit of those who have yet to see the movie.

As entertaining as this movie was, Medulla and I agreed that this movie, what with the quality of the mind-blowing computer-generated animation, felt more like we were playing another adventure-seeking game on Playstation 3. Not that that's a bad thing considering that we had a huge screen and good surround system...what more can a game geek ask for??

And let's not forget the birthday suits some of the characters were donning, or rather lack of it, throughout the movie. Perhaps the authorities slept through the movie or thought that this was another harmless animated movie...but whatever happened to censorship?!? A thing of the past I suppose..

Sometimes it's the simplicity that makes it all the more intriguing.

Why is it so hard for ........?

Maybe I'm overly-sensitive but who else finds it annoying that some people don't seem to understand the concept of switching their mobile phones to 'silent' mode particularly in the cinemas, during meetings and official functions?

After all, it's not a difficult thing to do. There's also the 'vibrate' mode which can be used to alert someone of an incoming call. It's not like we are dealing with our brokers over at Wall Street...if the phone 'rings' or vibrates then by all means, answer the phone! The makers of these mobile phones didn't just include these functions for nothing..

Apparently, Japan's minister of communications has big plans for the current iteration of the internet -- namely, to stamp it out of existence by 2020. According to reports, Yoshihide Suga -- the country's communications minister -- has announced that the Japanese government is hard at work on a newer, faster, stronger, and generally better looking internet.

According to Suga, the new network will deliver more reliable data transfers at higher speeds, be more resistant to viruses and crashes, and will be 60 percent more charming. The ministry hopes that in setting a timeframe and outlining goals for the system, the country's technology industry will be able to have a hand in developing global standards while gaining leverage for themselves in the new market.

Presenting the new era of telecommunications technology...and..perhaps the most-wanted mobile phone...the iPhone. Shame we can't use this back home yet..at times like this, I wish I'm living in the States right now.

Nokia is to introduce three new phone models..the Nokia 6500 Classic which is a thin 3G-enabled phone and has a quad band for global use (especially in the States), as well as a micro-USB connector..the Nokia 6500 Slide is a 3G phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera and a stainless steel body...the Nokia 8600 Luna (which is the highest range of the 3) is a design-driven stainless steel and glass phone with a 2 megapixel camera.

I'm starting to like the 6500 Classic and 8600 Luna...*hint* *hint*
