Facebook / Lolcats

Facebook for those who aren't familiar with it yet, is the latest buzzworthy social networking utility on the web-block, much like Myspace and the like. Originally designed for college students in the US ,it has been made available to all since Sept. last year and has really taken off since.

I can't say that I'm very much into these type of things to begin with (friendster, multiply etc) finding them all clones of one another with the blogging and photo-sharing, but Facebook has its differences with its assortment of fun applications that encourage more interaction between users.

Applications such as the cute 'gifts' that you can either give for free or purchase (better quality GIFs although why anyone would want to pay US$1 for some icons are beyond me), games that you can challenge your friends with, a chance to paint grafitti on your 'profile wall', and social interplay such as Superpoke (which offers users a chance to 'poke' or even 'throw a sheep' at their buddies) and Superlatives (which allows you to nominate your buddies as "the most likely to").

As Facebook operates on closed networks, the added privacy is another plus point for those wishing to feel more secure about releasing photos and personal info. All in all, a fun way of staying in touch and catching up with old friends.

I came across a couple of sites that really cracked me up, featuring freaky photos of cats with the funniest grammar-poor / pidgin-talk captions, like Lolcats and I Can Has Cheezburger. Check em' out...
