This has been a problem for a long while now and it's high time we took the "lid off" the issue so to speak and realise that fluffing it over isn't going to make it go away nor does it reflect well back on us as a society - especially when we think of the ramifications of not looking out for these women (and their children) - are we not leading to a vicious circle of raising even more advocates of household violence and potential child abuse?
It's important to remind ourselves there is always a way to turn this around for the better - and that we as a society have the capacity to move forward against the tide of repetitively overused models of thinking and acting out.
More could be done to support these ladies affected in terms of the agencies that are tied to dealing with this matter. As an individual, we too can have a role in being part of the solution.
Simply by raising awareness that domestic violence exists (including its impact on the children involved).
That it is something we should not have to tolerate happening in our midst - that alone is a giant enough first step...
