The fear of change?

In life, there will always be change. It is the only singular constant in the universe - a complete paradox if one were to think about it.

Yet... we often fight against it - not surprisingly, even when it serves a grander purpose... even when it serves our own interests.

It is something we very often reject if we were to see it in others... well, because it reminds us most what we should be looking towards in our ownselves. There is nothing wrong though in pursuing positive change. There is however something wrong though if we were not to accept it in others.

We all fear change and if the truth were to be known... there is quite often a real loss attached to change. And any loss is pretty hard to take and frightening to say the least to many of us - and I'm not calling myself any different.

We fear our own potential losses. But the loss need not only be something to be mourned but instead, also celebrated for it marks the passing of us through growth and maturity and through life's grand experiences. If you were to think of a loss, you'd be hard pushed not to find the gains as well. The Al-Mighty is fairer to us than we think and not being as selective as we choose to believe about ourselves. If you can't find any gains, you've probably opted to have a selective memory. Human exertions are hardly futile.

As humans, we are very much settled by the security blanket of 'sameness'. It means not having to do anything, exert any effort or suffer any consequence... Or don't we?

Settling for complacency doesn't get us further or better unfortunately and we may wake up one day cursing ourselves for not embracing the opportunities as it comes to us. If there's one thing I've learnt, is that there is no bigger pointless cause than to live with regrets...

I've seen many though go to all ends to stop the momentum of change from pushing forward only to find that the action serves little in the end, including to those who thought they knew better. Plus the path of resistance is not the most comfortable to tread.

Change is inevitable. "Resistance is futile" as pop culture even humourously dictates. Change will occur irregardless of whether we anticipate and desire it. For how can you stop growth and evolution...

Is that not what life is all about in the end?

The connotation itself brings fear to most people hence the resistance, and sometimes resentment 'change' brings when forced upon us - whether directly or vice versa.

Having experienced 'changes' in the daily operation of my life, I have to admit that not all of those changes turned out for the worse. I think I can safely say, Alhamdulillah those changes have provided me with opportunities which I probably wouldn't have experienced had my life remained static as it was 4 years ago...so yeah, change is not necessarily a bad thing and does not mean the end of the world!
