"Woman injured in snatch theft"
Apparently some lucky b**t**d grabbed the handbag of a 64-year old woman as she was about to cross the road at a major commercial establishment (a.k.a shopping centre..the papers and media here have this tendency to use 'big' words..for what you ask..my guess to impress the public that they're in the same league as, oh say, The Guardian) in Miri, leaving the poor woman with a swollen arm, identity card-less and a few hundred less to spend!
Whilst I sympathize with this woman for all that she went through, my inner cynicism tells me otherwise.
First of all, was she alone when she was about to cross the road? Where was her husband? Or her other family members? What was she doing before crossing the road? Where exactly in Miri at that time? Money changer? Bank? When she supposedly saw the white car speeding towards her, why didn't she stop (from crossing the road)? What was she wearing at the time of the incident? All glammed up with bangles/bracelets all the way up to her elbows and rings on both hands?
See..we're often led to believe that whatever's written in the papers (be it tabloids or broadsheets) or mentioned in the news is the real deal. No questions asked about the validity or the other side to the story (which often there is..but now isn't the right time to debate on it)
So here's my take on what might had happened to this woman in Miri..
She and her entourage (and like most others as well) took the opportunity of the long weekend to go on a mini holiday trip to Miri..perhaps indulge in some post-pay day shopping...and on that fateful day, she decided to go to the money changer. Busy counting her notes, she failed to take precaution especially when this suspicious looking dude (who just happened to be sitting in his white car two shops away from her) had been eyeing her the moment she stepped into the money changer with her expensive-looking handbag and jewellery-clad hands (Bling! Bling!) Again, woman still busy counting her money or just to give her some credit, she failed to properly secure her bag as she made her way to meet the rest of her family (some of whom might had already crossed the road). Before she even knew what had hit her, dude in white car sped up to her and tried to snatch her bag despite her efforts trying to hold on to it.
Remember that was just my theory.. I could simply be wrong about the whole thing.
But hey,all that was mentioned in the article was how her bag was snatched by a person driving a white car as she was about to cross the road. Simple statements such as that begs for more questions..and when someone like me comes across stuff like these, it's just ain't that easy to let go.
p/s: I'm suddenly rejuvenated after watching CSI!
