Love is in the air (part two)

Valentine's Day is so overrated. And I'm pretty sure some of you will agree with me on this. With 4 days to go, everyone from florists to restaurants to gift shops will be raking in the profits from this one particular day. Take eating places for example. So-called promotions are being advertised on the papers as well as the internet for those wishing to celebrate with their loved ones. Sure it's nice to take your loved ones out for a romantic meal but the very thought of forking out $100 for a meal which, on a normal day would probably cost (the most) $25, is totally absurd!?! Imagine the number of shoes or kains I can buy with $100...

And don't even get me started on all these survival tips for Valentine's Day...what is up with that?? It's bad enough that we have to survive everyday with all our problems front, left, right and center..now tips are being allocated especially for Valentine's Day. Imagine all the pressure of having to find the so-called perfect Valentine Day gift for your loved one...should it be expensive? cheap? does the size of the gift matter? what happens if I can't find that perfect gift? what will my boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/hubby/partner think of me if I come up empty-handed? I'm pretty sure I won't be so lucky on V-day *wink* *wink*

So what started out as a day in honour of a Christian saint aptly called St Valentine (which explains why celebrating V-day is a no-no in this country) has now turned into a successful commercial business..and sadly, we have fallen victims to this incessant commercialization which, really doesn't require a specific date to express our love to loved ones.
