Shrek the Third

Awhile back I tipped Shrek the Third as one of the must-see summer movies. Perhaps that was over-eagerness on my part seeing how the prequels received glowing reviews and did remarkably well in the box office ratings...so there I was thinking 3rd time will be a lucky charm too.

Apparently not.

While the animation remained top notch, the script seemed tired and bland...and the jokes had a "been-there-done-that" feeling. Maybe I'm still feeling bummed out but I was hoping Shrek the Third would lift me out of my current emotional state. Even Donkey and his wise-cracking jokes seemed lame (is this why Eddie Murphy lost out on the Oscar?). Fiona was almost barely-there and until the prison-breakout scene, she didn't really have any good lines. And Artie (aka Justin Timberlake) didn't convince me enough to make me root for him. Thank God for Puss in Boots...still suave, debonair and adorable as ever. Infact I'm hoping the TPTB would consider giving Puss or the princesses squad (the Snow White and the forest animals scene was hilarious!!) their own movie.

Final verdict: Puss in Boots still rocks! Unless you have kids then it's alright to give this movie a pass and/or wait for HBO or Starworld or whatever movie channel to screen it on telly...
