Instead of listing out my thoughts on what one ought to be doing/watching/reading/listening/wearing/eating, I thought I'd do something different this month..and as it's that time of the year when people will be flocking to the cinemas, here's my take on which movies you should be checking out between now and August:
(1) Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End The final installment of Disney's epic trilogy is almost upon us and judging from the trailers and previews Astro's been showing of late, this flick sure looks like it's gonna kick Spiderman 3's box office records!
(2) Ocean's Thirteen Welcome back George! Brad! Damon! Andy! and the rest of the crew! It took me three showings of Ocean's Twelve just to get the plot (yes..I was THAT slow..) so I'm hoping this sequel to the sequel (also the last "installment") would go back to what made Ocean's Eleven entertaining.
(3) 28 Weeks Later Ok so maybe this shouldn't qualify as it's currently showing in the cinemas but I can't stop raving about how cool this movie is! Despite my disappointment in Cillian Murphy's notable absence, Robert Carlyle was brilliant as the guilt-ridden father turned vengeful flesh-eating zombie. And was it just me but did anyone think that the silence looming over London was pretty eerie as opposed to the zombies chasing the survivors?
(4) The Bourne Ultimatum Unlike James Bond, I've always thought Jason Bourne was a more cooler and interesting character..less focus on gimmicks, more on character study. On a more superficial note, I never gave Matt Damon a second thought until the Bourne movies..
(5) Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix Nuff said.
(6) The Simpsons Movie Why the creators took this long to make a movie is something I'll never understand d'oh!
(7) Transformers Here's a confession: back in those heydays, I used to watch (religiously, without fail!) the cartoon. Who could forget the theme song "Transformers, more than meets the eye"??
(8) Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Not so much into the Fantastic Four themselves..ok maybe Torch (Chris Evans) is kinda cute..but I'm looking forward to seeing the Silver Surfer (voiced by the equally cool Laurence Fisburne) in action.
(9) Shrek The Third Our not-so-friendly ogre and his gang are back! Including everyone's favourite Puss In Boots
(10) 1408 Huh? you might ask. It's labelled as a ghost story and a pyschological thriller...a writer obssessed about the occult checks into a room 1408 (hence the title) of a hotel to to conduct research on his next book despite a warning from the hotel manager (Samuel L Jackson - yay!) that no tenant has ever survived for more than an hour. Should be interesting...and oh, one of my favourite actors, John Cusack plays the writer..
If you're wondering why I haven't included Bruce Willis' Live Free or Die Hard, or Rush Hour 3..fret not..here's another mini list of movies for further consideration:
Knocked Up (Grey's Anatomy Katherine Heigl in a tale, from the same person who brought us the wonderfully funny The 40-Year Old Virgin, of a one-night stand gone pregnant)
The Ex (Zach Braff, Jason Bateman and Amanda Peet)
Rush Hour 3 (Yay!! More silliness and laughs from the infamous Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker)
Hairspray (John Travolta in a fatsuit and playing a woman..let's see if he can pull it off)
Becoming Jane (Anne Hathaway in a take of Jane Austen)
Live Free or Die Hard (Isn't Bruce Willis too old to be doing this type of movie??)
